Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) refers to devices or equipment intended to be worn
or held by a worker to protect against one or more hazards that may affect their health or
safety at work.
The definition of personal protective equipment is provided in Regulation (EU) 2016/425
of the European Parliament and of the Council.
REGULATION (EU) 2016/425 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL
introduces a classification of personal protective equipment into three groups based on
their association with risk categories related to their use. It also establishes different
conformity assessment procedures for each group. The regulation defines PPE groups
assigned to categories of the lowest and highest risk.
CATEGORY I covering the lowest risk, includes personal protective equipment of simple
design, where the designer assumes that the user can independently assess its
effectiveness against minimal risks. These are risks whose effects, if they develop
gradually, can be easily identified by the user in a timely manner.
CATEGORY II applies to personal protective equipment of intermediate design, meaning
those that do not fall into Category I or III. This includes, among others, industrial helmets,
goggles, and protective glasses, as well as gloves, footwear, and clothing that protect
against mechanical hazards, high-visibility clothing, and clothing for welders.
CATEGORY III covering the highest risk, includes personal protective equipment of
complex design, intended to protect against life-threatening hazards or risks that may
cause serious and irreversible health damage, where the effects cannot be detected by
the user in time.
ABS PLASTIC
ABS plastic is a non-toxic and human-safe copolymer, acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene.
It is characterized by exceptional impact energy absorption, making it widely used in the
latest safety technology applied in automotive and skiing industries. Its unique structure
provides high resistance to mechanical factors while maintaining lightness:
ACRYLONITRILE ensures chemical resistance, preventing corrosion, deposits, and buildup.
BUTADIENE gives ABS exceptional durability, providing high impact resistance, especially
at low temperatures (unlike PP, LDPE, and HDPE, which are more flexible but less
impact-resistant and prone to stress corrosion).
STYRENE guarantees an exceptionally smooth surface and high hardness, including
scratch resistance (unlike HDPE, which is more susceptible to scratches).
